Moffett Field Growth

Moffett Field Growth

Berkeley Space Center is a proposed, $2 billion, 36-acre innovation center and hub where academia, private industry and government come together to identify, incubate and launch tomorrow’s technological breakthrough. It will be a multi-building campus located near the big hanger on land where the closed gas station and auto repair bays are located. Target opening is in 2027.  Many of our members served at NAS Moffett.  See https://spacecenter.berkeley.edu/home

The chapter board meets at the Moffett Museum on the first Thursday of the month – all are welcome. The museum is a jewel that most don’t know about. The artifacts are well worth a look. The collection of aircraft outside may bring back memories. You can see a rare U-2 that NASA used to fly out of the base. Recently three FMC tracked vehicles were donated and are on display.  Check out the progress of the reskinning of Hangar 1. It’s still a long time away from being as it looked when built in 1933. It’s unknown what will be inside. Here’s a January 1, 2023 bird’s eye view.
