Minutes of the March 27 meeting

Sect’y Dave Gulyas took good notes at our luncheon meeting. If you missed it, here’s a capsule. Our next meeting is April 25.

*Our speaker, Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Kulis, US Marine Corp (see photo with Ray Watts) spoke about the issue of TikTok. The average time spent on this social media app is 90 minutes. That’s a lot of influence going into young minds. The Biden Administration has banned it on Government devices…but not on personal ones. The president has sent a TikTok out himself, as an election piece! Montana tried to shut TikTok down, but opponents cited 1st Amendment protection. Beware – the Chinese app is scaping our data.

* Chapter president, Ray Watts, will represent us at the forthcoming MOAA Advocacy in Action meeting.

* Paul Barish shared his positive experience with VA Healthcare and wants members to reach out to him if questions arise.

* Member Angelo “AJ” Pasciuti lost in his bid to be on the SJ City Council.

* All are invited to the Vietnam Veterans memorial event on Saturday, March 30. AFROTC students from San Jose St. will be the honor guard.

* All are invited to sail on the SSJeremiah on May 18 to learn about the WWII era ship and associated events in San Francisco. This 4-hour Seaman’s Memorial Cruise is an annual tradition. It’s one of 2 remaining Liberty ships. The voyage honors all veterans. Just outside the Golden Gate Bridge, a wreath-laying ceremony is conducted complete with Color Guard. This $145 event is free for veterans. See SSJeremiah.org
