Honor Flight Program review with Dr Gary Laine – 27 JUN Luncheon

21 Members attended the June 27 lunch meeting at DeAnze College.  Meeting was presided over by past president Gil Borgardt.  We were excited to have new members Col David Vernal USA & LT Marjorie Siegel USN join the luncheon. During the luncheon we had the honor to recognize our distinguished chapter member Col (R) Keith Giles on his 100th Birthday.  True to his Warrior Ethos he wore his Air Force uniform with confidence, humility and US Air Force pride.  The guest speaker for the luncheon was Dr Gary Laine, a veteran of the US Navy Dental Corps. He’s resides on the Board of the local Honor Flight program. Attendees got a first-hand presentation regarding the objectives of the program and what it means to have veterans of WWII, Korean and Vietnam conflicts fly to Washington DC to view the military memorials and reconnect with fellow warriors. In additional chapter member Al Mounds shared a video of former President Trump honoring Vietnam Vets while he was in office.  Chapters webmaster Ricky Deutsch handed out MOAA -SVC “postcards” to each attendee highlighting our recruiting efforts. He’s placed the cards in prominent lobby locations in offices frequently visited by military officers.  The cards have been well received at both VA Palo Alto Hospital and clinic in San Jose.  He’s also placed cards at the Santa Clara County Veteran Service Office (VSO) in San Jose, and the Moffett Museum and Café.  New members were also provided at “no cost” Business cards promoting MOAA-SVC to share with potential members. COL (R) Roger Clark will make general business cards available for attendee’s when they sign-in for the luncheons. The next luncheon is at DeAnze College on July 25 and guest speaker Ryan Fugit former AH64 apache pilot and CIA operations officer will share personal experiences in combat and leading cyber threat, counterintelligence, counterterrorism, and political/military issues on key adversaries while he was with the CIA. The next Board meeting is on July 11 at Moffett Museum.
