Member Meetings
We meet on the last Thursday of each month at DeAnza College in Cupertino from 11:30 – 13:30. The meetings are held in the Campus Center, shown on the map. For detailed directions on how to find this building and room. Come in and register. You’ll get a name badge and find a table to sit at. Go to the snack area and purchase a lunch and bring back to the meeting room. At noon, the President will call the meeting to order. Following association business, a guest speaker with be introduced.
Park free in Parking Lot A. The parking lot faces a building called “Student & Community Services Building” (SCS). Enter the campus past the “Student & Community Services Building” and head to main quad and see the “Campus Center Building” on the right. Inside will be a snack area and many tables for students to eat. Next go down a hallway marked “Conference Rooms and Rest Room”. We will be in a large room – look for our registration table.
Meeting Procedure
Upon arrival, we request that you initial a roster confirming your name/contact information. Look for a member with thin blue binder containing the roster, who will also have a roll of door prize tickets for our monthly drawing. Get your nametag and select a chair at a table of your choice. Proceed to the DeAnza Food Court. Exit out of the conference room, walk 50 feet down the hallway and turn right to get inside the Food Court. There will be the following offerings:

Speaker Topic – “Honor Flights Bay Area”
Bay Area Honor Flight takes WW 2, Korean War and Viet Nam veterans to Washington DC to enjoy our country’s memorials. Our next flight is #35 in September. This lecture will give an overview of the workings of a typical trip. Questions will be encouraged following the presentation.
About our Speaker:
Dr. Gary B. Laine – USN Veteran
Gary B. Laine DDS was born in Hollywood, CA on April 22, 1948. He grew up in Pasadena-Arcadia and attended the University of Southern California and also graduated from its dental school. Specializing in prosthodontics, Dr. Laine also encompassed three generations of dentistry, beginning with his grandfather in 1913, in Nebraska. The streak finally ended on November 10, 2023 as Dr. Laine retired after 50 years in solo practice in Palo Alto and San Jose. Prior to starting his private practice in 1978, Dr. Laine joined the United States Navy Dental Corps after dental school and served from 1973-1975 at Naval Station San Diego during the Viet Nam War.
Dr. Laine has had a lifelong involvement in World War 2 history, particularly Pearl Harbor. His father served as a Navy dentist at the end of World War 2 and in the Korean War. His uncle flew B 17’s for the Mighty 8th Air Force, 486th Bomb Group over Germany during that conflict. Dr. Laine joined Bay Area Honor Flight in 2019 and currently serves on the Board of Directors. He also has an independent self-funded project, doing in-person interviews of World War 2 veterans around the country which now numbers over 125.

You can pick up the SVC Membership Renewal form at the luncheon or find and print the form at the bottom of this email.
